Bichi, Giovanni Battista: Il Trionfo di Pio VII. Firenze, presso Carlo Fabbrini, 1814.

Text of a celebratory masque for the return of Pope Pius VII to the rule of the Papal States in 1814. It features characters called "The Genius of Liberty", "Religion", "Rome" and "Divine Justice". The wrappers are made using woodblock-printed ephemera made to celebrate the return of another ruler in the post-Napoleonic order (Ferdinand III of Tuscany (1769-1824), who also returned to rule in 1814).

Details

One volume, 20.9 cms. x 15.4 cms., quarto, pp. 23 [1]. Light or medium browning, bound in pink wrappers, inside covers show some of woodblock-printed arms of Ferdinand III of Tuscany with motto ‘Viva Ferdinando’ (showing through to outside). Spotting and staining to wrappers, tear to spine. Stamp to title-page of P. Popa with motto ‘De his non gustabit asinus’.
