One of just two located copies, the only edition of this Italian pamphlet concerning the visit of King Philip IV of Spain to Seville in early 1624. Celebrations for the king’s visit included fireworks (sig. A4r) and a ‘mascarata’ (apparently a kind of masque or masquerade) involving twenty ‘quadriglie’ (quadrilles), each made up of ten people (sig A2r). The Palazzo Real was also decorated especially for the occasion (sig. A3r). Attending dignitaries are listed. No other works by the author, Luca Garcia Pizagno, have been located.
Description
One volume, 20.5 x 15 cms in binding, quarto, pp. [8]. Collation: A4. Woodcut to title page of Spanish royal coat of arms. One woodcut initial. Bound in quarter calf and brown paper over boards with green paper label extending over both covers, blue pastedowns and endpapers. Provenance: Libreria Antiquaria Mediolanum (label to front pastedown). Various modern pencil notes to title page, front cover, pastedowns, and an endpaper. Condition (textblock): light browning and spotting. Condition (binding): spine and part of green label lacking, wear to brown covering paper at corners and sides.
