Address given at Cervera University on 18 October 1761. The author describes the history of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, and its adoption as a patron by Spain. The work is heavily footnoted, with sources discussed and sometimes quoted at length. The cause of the Immaculate Conception as a national symbol was an important one at the university - the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception appeared on the university seal.
