Bestselling guidance on sexual sin, first printed in Zaragoza, 1726. The present printer was active in Madrid, 1759-1785 (CCPB). The Franciscan Antonio Arbiol y Díez (1651-1726) came from Zaragoza, as did his editor, Jerónimo García (1678-1751), a leading Franciscan who dedicates the work to the Virgen del Pilar, the advocation of the Virgin Mary who was patron saint of the city.  

Our copy was bound and sold years after printing by the prolific nineteenth-century Madrid publisher Eusebio Aguado, and appears to show his selling price. 

Details

One volume, 15 cms. x 10 cms. in binding, octavo, pp. [16], 256. Light or medium browning, bound in marbled calf, gilt to spine, label of red goatskin stamped in gilt, pastedown and endpapers marbled in brown and blue, edges speckled blue (binding rubbed, peeling to label, small tear to head of spine). Letterpress label to front pastedown: “Este libro se hallará venal en la imprenta y librería de D. Eusebio Aguado, bajada de Santa Cruz”. A price appears to be written onto this: “7 r.s” [reales].
